This special OEM version is a fully-functioning version, and is limited only by the direct support for your new NEC drive. Technical support is provided by NEC.

Ñ CHANGE FROM v5.31:
Fixes a minor bug relating to some audio cds not properly ejecting without using the Control Panel Dveice.
DriveCD will work on any Macintosh with a supported CD-ROM drive running System 6.0.8 thru System 7.5.3. The software is fully compatible with the Macintosh PowerPC based computers. We recommend you install Apple's latest System 7.5 Updater with "tuners" for best operation, especially on AV-style Macs.
If you experience unsastifactory performance, such as jerkiness in QuickTime movies, please be sure you have installed the latest versions of Apple Computer╒s updaters. These include: Apple Multimedia Tuner v2.0.1, Quicktime 2.0 AMMS Update, Video Digitizer Update v1.0, AMMS MPEG Decoder v1.0. The updaters/tuners are available from Apple Computer╒s Web site nd current System Software installer CDs.
Ñ THE MANUAL
The documentation for DriveCD is provided on this disk in Adobe Acrobat format. You need the application called Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open, read or print the documentation. It is not included on this disk.
Acrobat Reader is available from a variety of sources at no cost to you. It may already be installed on your new Macintosh, on a number od recent CD-s you may have purchased, from the Adobe System's Web page on the internet, in the Adobe forums on CompuServe and America OnLine, from user groups, dealers, and a number of other sources.
Ñ BEFORE INSTALLATION
Please print and read the manual and ReadMe files before you use the software.
It will not take much time and will make you life much simpler.
Ñ INSTALLATION
The Installer provided on this disk is simple to use.
Double-click on the DriveCD/NEC Installer icon and follow the directions.
This installation will automatically:
1. Install DriveCD/NEC and SpeedyCD into the Control Panels folder of your Macintosh,
2. Install a copy of the AudioCD Player into the Apple Menus folder inside the System Folder of your Macintosh, and
3. Place a folder named "DriveCD/NEC v5.31" on your hard drive. Inside this folder are CD+G files and VERY IMPORTANT ReadMe files for DriveCD and SpeedyCD for NEC drives.
Note:
The Apple File Access files will NOT be installed with the "NEC Files". This is beacuse you may have a later version of the Apple files on your computer.
If you choose to install the "Apple Files", the installer will install v 5.1.5 of Apple Photo Access, Foreign File Access, High Sierra File Access, ISO 9660 File Access and AudioCD Access into the Extensions Folder of your Macintosh.
Ñ AFTER INSTALLATION
At the end of the installation you will be asked to restart your computer. Although you may cancel and not restart at that time, the DriveCD modules will not become active until after you restart.
You must restart the Macintosh for the DriveCD software to load. You may also click on the ╥Mount╙ button to use a CD-ROM disc immediately. However, caching features will not be enabled until you restart.
When you open the DriveCD Control Panel for the first time be sure there is a checkmark next to the SCSI ID number where your CD-ROM drive is listed. DriveCD can only load it╒s driver if there is a checkmark at the CD-ROM drive╒s address.
If you have a CD-ROM driver extension or control panel installed in the System Folder that already supports your CD-ROM drive, a message window will appear during start up. This is a safety feature of DriveCD that avoids crashing the system if more than one driver attempts to load for the same CD-ROM drive. You should locate and remove the obsolete driver.

Ñ CD+G
CD+G is a technology that combines audio and graphics. The NEC CDR-602 (6Xe) supports CD+G. Other NEC CD-ROM drives do not support CD+G. Included on the disk is Time-Warner's freeware application called CD+G. This player allows you to display graphics (usually pictures and lyrics) as well as audio found on CD+G-mastered disks. Please read the CD+G ReadMe files for titles, sources and more Time-Warner information.
Ñ PHOTO CD COMPATIBILITY
DriveCD supports Kodak¬ single and multisession Photo CDs. To view Photo CDs you must install a Photo Access system extension distributed by Apple or Kodak into your system folder. You must also install Apple╒s Quicktime extension version 2.0 or later.
Ñ ABOUT CACHING...
DRIVECD includes two separate caching schemes to speed up CD-ROMs on your Macintosh. These are called a RAM Cache and a Directory Cache. The RAM Cache is built into DriveCD and is accessed thru the DriveCD window. It uses a user-selectable portion of of the physical RAM installed on your Macintosh. Its uses are explaines in the DriveCD manual and below under "RAM Cache"
If you have purchased a NEC 7-disk changer, the following information is VERY IMPORTANT:
Included with this release is the Directory Cache CDEV, called "SpeedyCD". This CDEV copies directory information from your CD-ROM disks into a folder on your Macintosh. Once activated, SpeedyCD creates a "SpeedyCD Folder" in your System Folder and uses that folder to keep the CD directory files. Each CD-ROM that you add into the directory cache will take up 2-4 megabytes of hard drive space. Please read the "SpeedyCD Disk Manual" located on the disk for additional information.
